It’s also a way to compare your product to top brands and see where you can improve.

The process usually starts with tasting and testing the product for flavor, smell, texture, and appearance. Then, scientists run lab tests to find out the amount of protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. Advanced tools like HPLC or GC-MS can detect small details like flavor chemicals or preservatives. After that, they try to guess the steps used in making it, based on its texture and structure.

But it’s important to note that reverse engineering has rules. Some products are protected by patents, trademarks, or recipes that can’t be copied exactly. The goal should always be to innovate,for example, creating a healthier version, making it with local ingredients, or making it more eco-friendly.

Reverse engineering can be a game changer for small food businesses. It helps them compete with big brands, create unique products, and bring new ideas to the market. As long as it’s done ethically, it’s a great way to learn from what’s already out there and turn it into something even better.
